Sculptra Procedure at San Antonio Cosmetic Surgery Center

Quick Links

Sculptra is an FDA-approved substance used for the restoration and/or correction of the signs of lipoatrophy. Facial lipoatrophy is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations in the face, and hollow eyes.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is composed of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic material that is biocompatible and biodegradable. Upon injection, PLLA stimulates the body to produce collagen, the abundant protein found naturally in the skin that lends the skin its shape and structure. Sculptra is not made from human or animal sources, and does not require a skin test prior to treatment.

What does Sculptra do?

Sculptra is injected below the surface of the skin in the area of fat loss. There is a gradual and significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas.

How long does Sculptra last?

In a clinical study, effects of Sculptra lasted for up to two years after the first treatment in most patients. But the results are not immediate.

Sculptra provides a gradual increase in skin thickness over time. The number of treatments required depends on the patient, and visible results will appear within the first few treatment sessions.
